Dodgeball

Description

Dodgeball is a sport of violence, exclusion, and degradation, so pray the stronger, faster ships are on your team. Remember, kids: if you can swing a wrench, you can dodge a fireball.

What makes this special?

It's all Squids, all Hades. Squids are the fastest and most nimble ships in the game. They're also (arguably) the most difficult ships to fly effectively. The Hades is (arguably) the most difficult weapon to fire accurately and consistently in the game, but is incredibly destructive when its shots land. The required pilot tools (arguably) encourage the Squid captains to (attempt to) evade enemy fire. You toss balls of fire at enemies and dodge their fireballs. Hence: dodgeball.

Tips and Strategies

The Hades can be rough to shoot accurately without Lesmok ammunition, and because Lesmok is banned in this rule set, battles will likely occur at closer ranges in order for crews to actually land shots. However, if blessed by the Gods with a talented gunner or engineer, longer range engagements are possible and ammunition like Burst or Greased become devastating. Hell, Lochnager is almost tempting because of the reduced arming time for point-blank engagements...

Gunner stamina will also play an important role in this battle because Squids (typically) maneuver too unreliably to maintain fields of fire for weapons like the Hades, what with its minimal horizontal arc. Helm tool abuse will be common in order to tweak your own ship's positioning and avoid incoming fire, but don't plan on relying on the more defensive tools, because they're banned.

Repairing the Squid will likely be a chore more difficult than usual. The Hades' likelihood of setting fires will make chemical spray important but also require an extinguisher for when the chem spray network goes down. An atypical pipewrench-spanner combo brought by an engineer to optimize armor maintenance could make the difference between a rebuild and a death. Or maybe you want a buff kit? Risky...
