Tips and Strategies |
The Minotaur is technically the second-longest range weapon in the game, but it's only effective at longer ranges when loaded with heavy clip... and heavy clip is banned here, encouraging closer-range combat. Don't be afraid to get down 'n' dirty. The closer you are, the more effective the Minotaur will be.
Here's my advice for shooting the Minotaur: pretend it's an invisible Artemis. The bean bags the Mino fires are invisible, but there's no vertical drop and they take a few seconds to reach their target, just like an Artemis rocket. The bean bags do have a spread (like a Carronade), so use heavy clip when not at point-blank range. When close, feel free to experiment. Target the center of the enemy ship until you get a feel for the gun and tame the beast. After you understand the Minotaur, avoid hitting the enemy balloon and instead aim for the hull; the Mino does shatter and piercing damage, just like a Gatling gun! Once you can consistently hit the enemy hull, try to aim at the farthest edges of their ship; the further away your shots land from the target's center of gravity, the more force you apply to spin their ship! Maximum irritation! The Minotaur is typically countered by activating Moonshine or Kerosene, but those tools are banned for this rule set while the Phoenix Claw is required... this encourages pilots to embrace the spinning effect to hit the enemy with the weapon mounted on the other side of the Galleon. But this also encourages gunners to shift fire to opposite sides of the vessel with each volley to keep enemy guns entirely out of arc. You want the bow of the enemy pointing directly at you as often as possible. When you're in the enemy's blind spot, you control the battle. There's a very high skill ceiling here... or the battle could be absolute chaos. Either result is a success. |
